Making Your First Purchase

Step 1: Register
Before you can buy you must have an account with Axebay. Registration is free and simple. Register now.

Step 2: Find items
You can find items by browsing or searching.

Browse
You can browse when you’re not exactly sure what you’re looking for, or when you just want to explore the range of items in a particular category. To browse, click Browse Member Ads from the left hand navigation panel. Then select the category that you wish to Browse. You can browse specifically in a sub-category (Guitar->Electric->6 String) or more diversely by just selecting the category heading (Guitar).

Once you have chosen the category in which you wish to browse you will be presented with the all the member ads in that category including auctions. You can change your viewing preferences by clicking the type of ad you wish to view from the View Preference Box on the left hand side of the page.

You can also choose a sub-category from the left hand side of the page and you can even change the layout of the page by selecting Picture Gallery or List View from the Display Box on the left hand side of the page. The default view is List View.

Search
You can search for a particular item or a specific item in many ways on Axebay.

  1. Search Menu Bar
    1. At the top of the page you will see the Search Menu Bar. You can enter any text in the search box and click on the Search Button. The word, words or phrase that you typed will be searched across all text in all ads.
  2. Search Member Ads
    1. For a more specific search click on Search Member Ads from the left hand navigation panel. You will be presented with an advanced search form.
  3. Search from the browse page
    1. An advanced search form can also be viewed from the browse page after selecting a category, just in case you want to get more specific.

Step 3: Getting more Information on an Item
Once you have located a list of items either by browsing or searching you can get more information on an item by clicking on the title of the ad.

The Item Page
All the information you require to make a purchase is on the item page including:

Other things you can do on the item page

  1. You can scroll through the pictures or watch the picture slide show.
  2. You can ask the seller a question or for more information about the item using the “Ask seller a question link.” This will facilitate Axebay’s messaging system to put you in touch with the seller.
  3. You can place a bid (auctions only).
  4. You can search for similar items.
  5. You can view other items listed by this seller.
  6. You can add the seller to your favorite seller’s list.
  7. You can watch an item by clicking on the Watch This Item button. When you click on the Watch This Item button, the item will appear on your Watched Items List in you’re My Axebay ->Activity page. If the item is an auction the highest bid will continually be updated so you can monitor when you should next bid on the item. If the item is a standard ad you can use the Watched Item List as a favorites list.

Step 4: Purchasing an Item
You can purchase items directly from Axebay or from Axebay members through either their standard ads or auctions.

Axebay Products
Axebay has a variety of new products available for purchase at very reasonable rates. All members are eligible for discounts on these products depending on their level of membership. Please see the Compare Membership Level Table to determine your discount.

To purchase a product directly from Axebay select the product from the Axebay products menu on the right hand side of the home page or select products from the left hand navigation panel on the home page.

Standard Ads

When purchasing a guitar through a standard ad, you may wish to view and play the instrument before you pay for it. Therefore, you would arrange to meet the seller in person. Buying in this manner is simple. You contact the buyer through Axebay messaging and set up a meeting if you are interested in purchasing the item. See our meeting in person section of our security document before meeting the seller.

For other items that you do not feel the necessity of viewing before purchase you can have the item shipped to you by the seller. Simply message the seller to arrange for payment and shipping.

For standard ads only, there is a sunset clause on all items. This means that if you have not paid for the item you wish to purchase within three (3) days that the transaction is null and void and the seller is free to sell the item to another buyer. Please see the rules for buyers document for further information.

Auctions

To purchase an item at auction you must bid on the item. When you click on the confirm bid button you are agreeing to be legally bound to purchase the item if you win the auction. The highest bidder at the end of the auction wins the auction if their bid has reached or exceeded the reserve price of the item.

An auction can last from three (3) days up until fourteen (14) days. If, at the close of the auction, you are the highest bidder and have met the reserve price set by the seller, you will receive an email from Axebay stating that you have a message from Axebay. Click on the link in the email and you will be taken to your My Axebay messages inbox.

The message from Axebay will state that you have won an item at auction. It will also contain the item id of the item auctioned, your bid on the item and the user id of the seller. You are required to pay this amount of the bid shown in the message to the seller without further negotiation. At this point you should contact the seller through Axebay’s messaging system to organise payment and delivery of the item.

If you are the highest bidder at the end of an auction but your bid is less than the reserve price, you will receive an email from Axebay stating that you have a message from Axebay. Click on the link in the email and you will be taken to your Axebay messages inbox.

The message from Axebay will state that you have not won the item at auction because your bid was less than the reserve price, but you are the highest bidder. It will also contain the item id of the item auctioned, your bid on the item and the user id of the seller. At this point you should contact the seller through Axebay’s messaging system to negotiate further on the item. You may still be able to purchase the item if you and the seller can reach agreement. You may have to increase your offer and the seller may have to drop their price.

Two things to keep in mind if you are the highest bidder at the close of an auction but your bid has not met the reserve price:

  1. It doesn’t mean you have won the auction.
  2. It doesn’t mean that you cannot purchase the item.

Step 5: Payment Methods
Different sellers will accept different payment methods. Depending on how you purchased the item will determine how you should pay for the item in conjunction with the seller’s preferred payment options.

If you are picking up the product in person, then cash is the likely payment method. If the product is being shipped to you then you will have to use PayPal or some other method of payment. Never send cash through the post.

It is wise to pay promptly so that you will receive your goods quickly. Slow payment will lead to a poor buyer rating. In fact, you have already agreed in the rules for buyers document which becomes part of your user agreement to pay for items bought within three (3) days of committing to buy or winning an auction.

Please note that Axebay takes no part in the transaction and therefore takes no responsibility for quality of goods bought and sold on Axebay.com. Nor does Axebay take any responsibility for the payment of an item bought by a member from another member on Axebay.com. You indemnify Axebay when you agree to the user agreement.

Step 6: Use My Axebay
My Axebay allows you to track all of your Axebay activities – including buying, watching, selling, biding and ratings – from one page. Once you've registered, you’ll have your own My Axebay page. Visit it often to watch what’s happening with items you’re interested in.
